Short overview

An FBI Detroit file (100-DE-26505) from November 1957 on the interview of a Detroit resident and former prisoner of war who wrote to Robert Cutler, Special Assistant to President Eisenhower, about a circular vehicle he said he had seen rising in Germany in 1944.

Why this is interesting

The file shows the chain of events: on November 6, 1957, FBI headquarters ordered Detroit to interview the letter writer immediately, and the interview took place the next day. He said a news report about a vehicle in Texas that was said to make engines stall had reminded him of an experience in 1944 near Gut Alt Golssen, where a tractor engine stalled while a high-pitched whine was heard. About three hours later, in an area watched by SS guards, he said he saw a circular vehicle, 75 to 100 yards across and about 14 feet high, rise slowly out of an enclosure screened by a tarpaulin-type wall about 50 feet high; its middle section moved so fast that it formed a continuous blur, and the tractor stalled again. The interviewing agent noted no sign of irrational or abnormal behavior; the file closes with a 1966 exchange in which an Oklahoma UFO research group asked FBI Detroit for sighting information and SAC Paul H. Stoddard referred it to the Air Force at Wright-Patterson.
