Palayamkottai, India: Missionary sees stationary bright object shaped like a Tamil letter
In 1838 at 7:30 p.m., British missionary George Pettitt saw a brilliant stationary object in the sky at Palayamkottai, India, which remained visible for 20 minutes.
Background
At 7:30 p.m. British missionary George Pettitt saw a brilliant object in the sky at Palayamkottai, India. It was slightly smaller than the full moon, stood at an elevation of 45° and had the shape of the vowel எ in the Tamil script. The object was perfectly stationary, remained visible for 20 minutes and faded away gradually. The observation was recorded in Baden Powell's catalogue of luminous meteors for the British Association in 1849. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
