Background

At 8:30 p.m. Lloyd C. Yale of Norwood, New York, watched an object with a long tail move slowly from east to west. It had a "nucleus like a globe, as large as the moon, surrounded by a bright ring," with two dark lines crossing the nucleus vertically, tapering both ways to points. The general appearance was of a "gigantic sword of fire, moving handle first." Eberhart cites the report "A Great Meteor" in the Illustrated Science Monthly (1884). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
