Background
At 6:00 p.m. three glowing objects were seen moving through a ravine in St. Petersburg, Russia. The center one was the largest and golden in color; the two smaller ones on either side were purple. The slopes of the ravine were illuminated with a purple light. After 3 minutes the objects grew smaller and vanished instantly without a sound. Eberhart cites L'Année Scientifique et Industrielle (1889), which reported the event under the heading of ball lightning ("Éclairs en boule"). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
