Background
At 7:45 p.m. John H. Lee and others in Benton Harbor, Michigan, watched an airship moving rapidly north-northwest for 15 minutes. To the naked eye it looked like a huge ball of fire. Through opera glasses it resembled a cluster of soft yellow lights. The Benton Harbor Evening News reported the sighting on 12 April 1897; Jerome Clark's encyclopedia also covers it. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
