Lake Elmo, Minnesota: Two men see a figure and a lighted object rise, 14 footprints found
On April 13, 1897, at 11:15 p.m., Frederick Chamberlain and O. L. Jones saw a figure in a clearing west of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and then a gray-white object with red or green lights rise over the trees.
Background
At 11:15 p.m. Frederick Chamberlain and O. L. Jones were riding one mile west of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, when they noticed a figure walking around in a clearing as if looking for something. When they turned off the road, they heard a cracking sound and a rushing noise, then saw a gray-white object resembling the top of a covered wagon with two rows of four red or green lights. It rose quickly at a sharp angle to clear the treetops; no machinery, wings, rudders or outline could be made out. In the mud Chamberlain found 14 footprints, each 2 feet long and 6 inches wide, arranged seven on each side in an oblong pattern. Farmer Adam Thielen independently saw a dark object with red and green lights fly overhead at about the same time. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
