At 10:00 p.m., a noise drew residents of Platte City, Missouri, outside, where they saw a hovering object about 100 feet long and 20 feet wide. Two immense wings on either side were moving up and down. Greenish light beams shone down on Main Street from its back and front. Suddenly there was a hissing sound and explosions, and the object moved away to the northeast. The Buffalo Enquirer reported the sighting on 12 April 1897. The account follows the entry in George M.
