Background
In October 1908, skipper J. H. Stockman of the smack Superb was fishing in the North Sea 35 miles out of Lowestoft, Suffolk, when he saw a large “star” rise out of the water and approach his ship. He signaled it with a red flare and was immediately answered with a red flare above him. When he showed a white flare, he received a blue flare in response. The object appeared sausage-shaped and carried a single light. It disappeared in the direction of the Netherlands. The case was reported in the East Anglian Daily Times and the Norfolk News in May 1909. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
