Richmond, Virginia: Weather Bureau meteorologist sees domed disc through theodolite
At 11 a.m. one day in April 1947, US Weather Bureau meteorologist Walter A. Minczewski in Richmond, Virginia, watched a silvery disc with a dome on top through a theodolite while tracking a ceiling balloon; a co-worker also saw the object.
Background
At 11:00 a.m. US Weather Bureau meteorologist Walter A. Minczewski was tracking a ceiling balloon with a theodolite in Richmond, Virginia, when he watched a silvery disc for 5β7 seconds. It traveled east to west just below the balloon at 15,000 feet, remained in sight for 15 seconds and appeared much bigger than the balloon; it had a flat, level bottom and a dome on top, kept a westward heading at high speed and vanished into the distance. A co-worker, Miss Baron, saw the object when her balloon was at about 27,000 feet. The Project Grudge final report notes at least one other earlier report from the same Weather Bureau station in the previous seven months. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
