Mount Adams, Washington: Prospector sees five or six oval objects, compass spins
On the afternoon of 24 June 1947, prospector Fred M. Johnson in the Mount Adams area of Washington watched five or six oval objects with tails, one of them through a telescope, while his compass spun wildly until the objects vanished.
Background
On the afternoon of 24 June 1947, Fred M. Johnson, a prospector in the Mount Adams area of Washington, saw five or six oval objects with tails, about 30 feet in diameter, and watched one of them through a telescope. They flew in no particular formation, and sunlight flashed off them as they banked in a turn. As the objects approached, Johnson noticed that his compass began to spin wildly; when they finally vanished in the distance, the compass returned to normal. His report became the first case classified as 'unidentified' in the Project Sign files, and the FBI office in Portland reported on it to the FBI Director in September 1947. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
