Boise, Idaho: Lt. Brown and Capt. Davidson interview Kenneth Arnold, who files a statement
On July 12, 1947, Lt. Frank M. Brown and Capt. William L. Davidson, who had flown in from Hamilton Army Airfield in Novato, California, interviewed Kenneth Arnold at the Hotel Owyhee in Boise, Idaho; Arnold also submitted a written statement with a drawing to Army Air Force intelligence.
Background
On July 12, 1947, Lt. Frank M. Brown and Capt. William L. Davidson, who had flown in from Hamilton Army Airfield (now closed) in Novato, California, interviewed Kenneth Arnold at the Hotel Owyhee in Boise, Idaho. Arnold also submitted a written statement to Army Air Force intelligence in which he called the objects 'saucer-like', and at the end of the report he drew what they had looked like at their closest approach to Mt. Rainier, Washington. He wrote that they 'seemed longer than wide, their thickness was about 1/20th their width' and that they flew like geese 'in a rather diagonal chainlike line as if they were linked together.' James Easton suggested in 2007 that Arnold may have seen pelicans, which Eberhart considers unlikely. While at Arnold's house, Brown and Davidson heard that pilot Emil J. Smith was in Boise on a layover, and all three went to the airport to talk to him. The interview is documented in Brown's 'Memorandum for the Officer in Charge' of July 16, 1947, in the PURSUE release. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
