Background

At 12:17 p.m. David N. Johnson, aviation editor of the Idaho Statesman and a former B-29 pilot, was flying in an Idaho Air National Guard AT-6 Texan and preparing to land at Gowen Field (now Boise Airport) when he saw a black object standing out against the clouds. The object made a slow roll, then a stair-step climb, and disappeared into the clouds. Johnson took 10 seconds of 8mm motion-picture film, but it shows no trace of the object. He reported the sighting in the Idaho Statesman on July 10 and 11, 1947; Eberhart also cites NICAP, Brad Sparks, NICAP's The UFO Evidence, Ted Bloecher's 1947 wave report and four PURSUE release documents. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
