Saint Maries, Idaho: Family sees 8–9 discs flutter down over St. Joe River, air search
At 6:30 p.m. on July 3, 1947, Mrs. Walter Johnson and her family saw eight or nine discs descend over the St. Joe River 6 miles west of Saint Maries, Idaho.
Background
Mrs. Walter Johnson and her family saw 8–9 discs fly out of the southern sky over the St. Joe River, 6 miles west of Saint Maries. The objects came in very fast, slowed down jerkily and then fluttered to the ground like leaves; Mrs. Johnson thought they were about the size of a five-room house. On reaching a clearing in the timber they appeared to settle down a few at a time. She reported the sighting to intelligence officers at the Spokane Army Air Base (now Fairchild AFB), and two missions of the National Guard's 116th Fighter Group carried out an intensive air search. Local sheriff's deputies searched on the ground, but no traces of a landing were found. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
