USAF Intelligence: McDonald memo calls fighter alert for flying discs 'unfeasible'
On March 17, 1948, Maj. Gen. George C. McDonald, director of USAF intelligence, sent a memo on 'Flying Discs' to the commander of Air Materiel Command, judging Col. Howard M. McCoy's proposal to keep fighters on alert for UFOs 'unfeasible'.
Background
In a memo titled 'Flying Discs' dated March 17, 1948, Maj. Gen. George C. McDonald, director of intelligence of the US Air Force, wrote to the commander of Air Materiel Command (AMC). He considered the proposal by Col. Howard M. McCoy to maintain fighters on alert for UFOs 'unfeasible'. The memo is part of the Air Force records published in the Department of War's PURSUE release (general file 1948, vol. 1, and the AMC report on UFOs 1947–1948). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
