Sorsogon City: P-47s spot half-moon object
USAF Lieutenant Robert W. Meyers and his P-47 squadron encountered a silvery half-moon shaped object near Sorsogon City, Philippines, on April 1, 1948. The object moved at high speed, causing radio failure during pursuit.

Witness and Context
USAF 1stLt. Robert W. Meyers was leading a formation of four P-47 fighters of the 67th Fighter Group. The incident occurred at 9:55 about 9 miles southeast of Sorsogon City on Luzon, Philippines, at an altitude of 1,500 feet.
Sighting and Description
Meyers spotted a silver object 3 miles to the east, resembling a glider or a crescent with an arched back. It resembled no known military aircraft. The object flew below the flight at around 1,000 feet at 200 mph and measured an estimated 30 feet across and 20 feet long.
Pursuit and Termination
When he tried to call the other pilots by radio, communications failed. Meyers turned 270° to the left to close on it, whereupon the object broke 90° left and disappeared at enormous speed. The sighting lasted only about 5 seconds.
