Background

At 6:40 p.m., while returning from Gallup, New Mexico, a doctor and his wife crossed a long bridge about 2 miles east of Ganado, Arizona. As they crested a hill west of the bridge, they saw a brilliant white light directly ahead, slightly above the horizon. The object appeared stationary at first, then dropped in a shallow curve toward the west. His wife noted a slightly greenish color, and both observed an orange tinge as it descended, with sparks trailing from it both while hovering and during its fall. Believing at first that it was an aircraft on fire, he reported the sighting to the Arizona State Police. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
