Background

The U.S. Air Force file consists of a Project 10073 record card, a routing slip dated May 1949 and a handwritten letter. The record card summarizes the report in a few words: a civilian ground-visual observer sighted six objects, each of which flew by alone; neither the length of observation nor the course was reported, and there were no photos or physical evidence. The conclusion on the card is “insufficient data for evaluation,” and a corresponding note appears on the letter. According to the official description, the letter was written by a resident of Avalon to a recipient in Boise, Idaho, and relays that the writer’s wife and another person saw the objects at night; the card speaks of a single observer, and the barely legible letter does not allow these details to be checked. The details are taken from records released by the U.S. Department of War in PURSUE Release 07 (record code DOW-UAP-D181) and do not represent an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
