Killeen Base, Texas: Army patrols see small violet lights near the ground at weapons site
On April 27, 1949, between 9:20 and 9:39 p.m., Army patrolmen and soldiers at Killeen Base, Texas, saw several small violet and purplish-white lights fly a few feet above the ground, one of them with a small metallic cone attached.
Background
At 9:20 p.m. two Army patrolmen southeast of Killeen Base, Texas, saw a blinking violet light no more than 1.5 inches in diameter, 10–12 feet from them and 6–7 feet above the ground; during the 60-second observation it passed through the branches of a tree. At 9:25 p.m., 2 miles away, four soldiers saw a 4-inch light with a 2–4-inch metallic cone attached to the back approach silently in level flight at 60–70 mph before disappearing to the southwest. At about 9:37 p.m. a 2-inch purplish-white light appeared 100 feet to the northwest, flying in a zig-zag path 6–7 feet above the ground. When the soldiers tried to approach it, it zoomed away down the road, its light shut off and it disappeared. A third light showed up at 9:39 p.m. in the west-southwest. The case is listed among the Blue Book unknowns. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
