Kapustin Yar, Russia: Test pilot Apraksin meets cucumber-shaped object a second time
On May 6, 1949, Soviet test pilot Arkady Ivanovich Apraksin reportedly encountered a cucumber-shaped object at maximum ceiling over the Kapustin Yar site whose cones of light damaged his aircraft.
Background
Soviet test pilot Arkady Ivanovich Apraksin took a new airplane up at the Kapustin Yar site in Astrakhan Oblast. At its maximum ceiling of 9.3 miles he encountered a cucumber-shaped object, similar to the one he had met on June 16, 1948, which directed cones of light at his aircraft from a distance of 6β7 miles. According to the account, the lights caused his communications equipment to fail and damaged part of the plexiglass canopy, causing a loss of cabin pressure. He landed on the banks of the Volga River 30 miles from Saratov and woke up in a hospital in Saratov, where he again underwent intense interrogation, psychotherapy and medical procedures. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
