Los Alamos, New Mexico: Second green fireball conference sets up field project
On October 14, 1949, a conference at Los Alamos, New Mexico, with 16 representatives of AFOSI, AMC, Fourth Army, the FBI, AFSWP and Los Alamos scientists concluded that the green fireballs were probably atmospheric but more data was needed, and selected the Cambridge Research Laboratory for a field project under LaPaz.
Background
On October 14, 1949, another conference on the green fireballs was held at Los Alamos, New Mexico. It was attended by 16 representatives of AFOSI, AMC (Joseph Kaplan and Maj. Frederic C. E. Oder), Fourth Army, the FBI, AFSWP and Los Alamos scientists, among them Edward Teller, George Gamow and Stanislaw Ulam. LaPaz and Neef spoke at length. The meeting identified the green fireballs as probably atmospheric in origin but found that more observational data was needed. Oder's Cambridge Research Laboratory at Hanscom AFB in Bedford, Massachusetts, was selected for a field project under LaPaz's supervision. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
