Background

At midnight Rev. Ross Vermillion, a former bomber pilot, and his wife were driving 9 miles west of Kingman, Kansas, when they saw a bright red light hovering over US Highway 54 near Cunningham. They estimated it at about 250 feet in diameter with a small canopy on top. The family of druggist Dwayne Mulnix of Meade, Kansas, also saw the object; they stopped and watched it for about 20 minutes along the highway, and when they began to drive closer it sped away. In the bright moonlight the object looked made of bright metal, with an elliptical body "as big as the cross-section of a B-29" and a rotor turning counterclockwise around it. Eberhart cites NICAP, the Wichita Evening Eagle of 30 June 1950 and other Kansas newspapers. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
