Background

Event

On June 24, 1950, a cigar-shaped UFO paced a United Airlines aircraft for 20 minutes, sighted by Captain E. L. Remlin, First Officer David Stewart, and observer Capt. Samuel B. Wiper near Daggett, California. The crew of another passenger aircraft and of a navy transport shared the sighting.

Details of the Sighting

The navy pilot watched the dark grey object for three minutes, noted heat radiation at the rear, and estimated the altitude at 50,000–100,000 feet and the speed at 1,000–1,500 mph. The crews contacted two CAA ground stations to discuss it.

Wide Dissemination

Hundreds of witnesses reported the object across 300–400 miles from southern California to Nevada and southeastern Utah. Local newspapers reported it at length, which has been cited in support of its credibility. (Sources: NICAP, Sparks, LA Times, Reno Journal, UFOEv, Rudiak).
