Background

At 6:30 a.m. Joseph J. Kaliszewski and Dick Reilly were flying at 10,000 feet north of Minneapolis, observing a balloon, when they saw a brightly glowing object southeast of the University of Minnesota airport moving at high speed from west to east. It had a halo around it and a dark undersurface; it crossed rapidly, slowed down and began to climb slowly in lazy circles. Doug Smith and Dick Dorion at the General Mills tracking station at the University of Minnesota watched the object through a theodolite. Two hours later they watched another object. James E. McDonald presented the case in his statement to the House Committee on Science and Astronautics in July 1968. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
