Background

At 10:30 a.m., the radar used to measure upper-atmosphere wind velocity at Dobbins Air Force Base, Marietta, Georgia, detected an unusual object flying at 50,000 feet. The four radar technicians observing the blip said it could have been an electromagnetic phenomenon but they did not believe it was. A second blip moved toward the wind-finding weather balloon and passed through it three separate times. In private conversations USAF officials said the object moved at 1,200 mph, slowed considerably for 3โ€“5 minutes and then disappeared. Col. Murray C. Woodbury, commander of the 35th Air Division at Dobbins, told the press after checking with Washington that such reports go to the Air Technical Intelligence Center in Dayton, adding: "We try to intercept such objects and identify them, but so far we have been unsuccessful." The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
