Washington, D.C.: CAA radar tracks 8–12 targets, they vanish as an airliner approaches
In the early morning of July 29, 1952, CAA radar tracked 8–12 unidentified targets at a time in a 10-mile arc around Washington, D.C.; an Eastern Airlines pilot sent to check them at 3:00 a.m. saw nothing, and the targets disappeared as he approached and returned behind him.
Background
In the early morning CAA radar tracked 8–12 unidentified targets at a time, traveling 100–120 mph in a 10-mile arc around Washington, D.C. At 3:00 a.m., at the request of the CAA, an Eastern Airlines pilot tried to check on the radar targets but saw nothing. The targets disappeared from CAA radar when the airliner approached and came back in behind him after he had passed through the area. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported the radar returns on July 30, 1952. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
