United States: Air Force press officer Al Chop gives Keyhoe cleared Blue Book reports
On 21 August 1952 USAF press officer Al Chop gave Donald Keyhoe several Project Blue Book reports, including the Haneda AFB and Congaree AFB cases, as cleared for publication, on condition that Keyhoe deny reports of pilots shooting at UFOs.
Background
USAF press officer Al Chop provided Donald Keyhoe with Project Blue Book reports, including the Haneda AFB case, the Congaree AFB case and three reports from late July 1952. Chop assured him that the reports had been cleared and that he could write about them, on one condition: that he deny sensational reports that pilots were shooting at UFOs. Eberhart bases the entry on Keyhoe's book Flying Saucers from Outer Space and on Powell's account of Keyhoe. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
