ATIC: Bower and Fournet brief CIA consultants Durant and Tauss on three Blue Book cases
On November 25, 1952, ATIC Col. Donald L. Bower and Maj. Dewey Fournet briefed CIA consultants Frederick C. Durant and Edward Tauss on Blue Book's top three cases: the Tremonton film of July 2, the Presque Isle and Limestone AFB sighting of October 10 to 11, and the Florida scoutmaster case of August 19.
Background
On November 25, 1952, Col. Donald L. Bower and Maj. Dewey Fournet of the Air Technical Intelligence Center briefed CIA consultants Frederick C. Durant and Edward Tauss on what Blue Book regarded as its top three cases. These were the Tremonton UFO film of July 2, 1952; a sighting at Presque Isle and Limestone AFB (now Loring International Airport), Maine, on the night of October 10 to 11, which the entry calls dubious and which Hynek had already explained as a theodolite miscalibration that made Jupiter and its four prominent moons visible; and the problematic Florida scoutmaster case of August 19. According to the entry, the USAF wanted the CIA to regard these as good cases until they unraveled at the proposed Robertson Panel meeting. The entry cites the CUFON sampler of 1952 CIA UFO-related documents and Clark. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
