CIA, Washington, D.C.: Intelligence Advisory Committee calls for scientific UFO review
On December 4, 1952, the CIA Intelligence Advisory Committee, in a meeting chaired by Chadwell, recommended that the Director of Central Intelligence enlist selected scientists to review the UFO evidence, essentially the go-ahead for the Robertson Panel.
Background
On December 4, 1952, the CIA Intelligence Advisory Committee recommended that “the Director of Central Intelligence will ‘enlist the services of selected scientists to review and appraise the available evidence in the light of pertinent scientific theories.’” The meeting, held in the Director's Conference Room of the CIA Administration Building, was chaired by Chadwell. It was attended by Robert Amory Jr., Gen. John Samford, Rear Admiral Carl F. Espe, Gen. John M. Willems, William Park Armstrong, Walter F. Colby, Col. Edward R. Porter and Col. Jere Boggs. The review was to be carried out “immediately” through a National Security Council Intelligence Directive. Eberhart calls the decision essentially the go-ahead for what would become the Robertson Panel. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
