The Incident

The uranium mines of Shinkolobwe in the Belgian Congo were, at the time, the principal source of high-grade uranium ore used in the US Manhattan Project and continuing post-war nuclear programmes. Colonial security units and mine personnel reported multiple UAP observations in early 1952. The movement of the objects toward Lake Tanganyika is cited as an example of the 'water-resource hypothesis' β€” the suggestion that UAP activity correlates with deep-water bodies possibly used as bases.

Significance

The case is one of the earlier documented African UAP encounters at a strategic-resource site.
