Chickasaw, AL: Multiple red objects, radar confirm
On August 28, 1952, civilians and USAF personnel in Chickasaw, Alabama, observed several red lights maneuvering south toward Brookley AFB. Radar confirmed a stationary target, with reports of explosions and figure-8 movements.
Background
Witnesses and Initial Sightings
Three civilians reported several red objects at 21:30, stationary and manoeuvring south of Chickasaw, and a further one moving from south to west, toward Brookley AFB.
Investigation by AFOSI
Charles A. Robinson, an AFOSI agent, arrived at 21:50 and saw four objects to the south and southwest at a distance of 8–12 miles. A fiery red object remained stationary for 15 minutes, then drifted 15°–20° to the right and halted again.
Radar and Tower Observations
Radar operator A/2C Irl A. Whitaker visually spotted a red-green object to the north over Chickasaw. Capt. William E. Edwards and the tower crew saw an object to the southwest below the moon and another to the west at an elevation of 10°–20°. Radar confirmed the latter as a stationary target at 4 miles distance and 4,000 feet altitude.
Special Maneuvers and Phenomena
Observers saw one object explode and another perform a figure-of-eight. There were 4–6 objects larger than stars, in fiery red, red-blue, red-green, and sparkling diamond shapes. A civilian employee described a flat oval form. (Source: NICAP, Sparks)
