Georgia: Moody AFB pilot sees shape-shifting light, Turner AFB radar tracks targets
At 9:40 p.m. on January 28, 1953, Maj. Hal W. Lamb of Moody AFB saw a light change color and shape while flying; Turner AFB tower operators also saw it, and GCA radar at Turner tracked several targets.
Background
At 9:40 p.m. Maj. Hal W. Lamb, USAF senior pilot at Moody AFB in Valdosta, Georgia, saw an object changing color and shape while flying a T-33 (or an F-86); it was apparently the setting planet Venus, although this is disputed. Tower operators at Turner AFB in Albany, Georgia, also saw it, with time errors of about 10 minutes. About the same time two GCA radar maintenance men at Turner AFB tracked three moving targets and one stationary target. At 10:10 p.m. the GCA reported two stationary targets at 17 and 27 miles, both at 300° azimuth. Brad Sparks lists the case in his catalog of Blue Book unknowns. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
