Background
At 3:50 p.m. on October 9, 1953, a UFO was seen at Caulfield, Melbourne, Victoria, discharging a white trail described as strange shiny filaments. The filaments covered wires and trees. A sample turned out to be a nylon-like amorphous mass with traces of magnesium, calcium, boron and silicon. In an air-tight container it shrank from 3 inches to half an inch. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
