Background

At 4:30 p.m., radar at RAF Bawdsey (now Bawdsey Manor), Suffolk, tracked three unidentified objects at 36,000 feet above the Netherlands. They were soon tracked flying east to west over the Harwich area. Jets scrambled from RAF Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, could locate nothing, and airmen at Bawdsey saw only four contrails heading north. The objects then reversed and moved back across the English Channel at 32,000–34,000 feet; their apparent speed was 430 mph on the approach, 483 mph over the UK and 564 mph on the return. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
