Background

Navy pilot Lt. JG George G. Morgan of Naval Air Station Lakehurst, Toms River police chief Richard Clement, officer Oliver G. Osborne and other witnesses saw 3 to 12 round white objects with fuzzy edges, slightly smaller than the full moon, hovering in the south for 90 minutes, two of them circling around another and then switching places. Some witnesses drove toward the objects, which suddenly left to the southwest at extremely high speed and vanished within one to two seconds. Independent witnesses along a baseline of at least 12 miles allowed triangulation placing the objects near Beach Haven, New Jersey, 15 to 40 miles away; at least five used binoculars. J. Allen Hynek calculated a departure speed of 90,000 mph, a hovering altitude of 4 miles and a diameter of 1,500 feet. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
