Background

At 3:20 p.m. USMC Capt. Dan C. Holland was flying one of three jets of the 3rd Marine Air Wing on an easterly heading at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at about 26,000 feet and more than 400 mph. He saw a gleaming white, ball-shaped object with a gold ring around its lower third, about twice the size of his jet, descending vertically on a collision course. He took evasive action and radioed the other pilots; the object suddenly stopped 3,000–4,000 feet above his jet. When he banked toward it and activated the gun camera, it accelerated and disappeared to the east at tremendous speed in about 15 seconds. The two pilots flying ahead of him did not see the object. NICAP, Brad Sparks's list and several newspapers, including the Miami News and Stars and Stripes, reported the case. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
