Background

In the afternoon Roger Mougeolle and Gilbert Doridant were logging in a forest clearing near Bois-de-Champ, Vosges, when they heard a noise above them like a train passing over a metal bridge. They saw three metallic, cigar-shaped objects silently approaching from over a nearby hill; two passed over them, while the third slowly descended above the clearing and stopped a few feet from the ground. It was over 600 feet long. Doridant fled, but Mougeolle walked toward it and touched it; it was smooth, cold and hard like steel. When he touched it with his woodsman's axe he was instantly thrown about 18 feet toward a large rock and felt paralyzed for a few minutes until the object ascended and disappeared. Eberhart cites Joël Mesnard in Flying Saucer Review (1987). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
