Dearborn, Michigan: Motorist sees clam-shaped object and 14–15 small figures
At 5:40 a.m. on September 30, 1954, Lawrence Cardenas, driving on Rotunda Drive in Dearborn, Michigan, reported a clam-shaped object with pulsating lights in a field and a group of about 14–15 small figures near the road; a later polygraph test went against him.
Background
At 5:40 a.m. on September 30, 1954, Lawrence Cardenas was driving west on Rotunda Drive in Dearborn, Michigan, and slowed to about 20 mph when he noticed the Southfield light ahead. About 200 feet away in an open field he saw a clam-shaped, saucer-like object about 10 feet high and 25 feet in diameter, with orange lights pulsating red, green and yellow. His headlights then picked up a group of about 14–15 small figures no more than 10 feet from the road, roughly 4 feet tall, with bald heads in glass or plastic breathing apparatuses, goggles and greenish uniforms, accompanied by a slightly taller figure in a brown uniform who appeared to be their leader. The figures gestured constantly and watched his car pass. Cardenas later underwent a polygraph administered by Sgt. Howard Whaley, who concluded that he was not telling the truth; Cardenas said he remained certain about what he saw. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
