Graulhet, France: Swaying disc explodes in the sky, silvery filaments fall on trees
At 4:30 p.m. on 13 October 1954, Mr. Carcénac in Graulhet, Tarn, France, watched a swaying disc explode at high altitude; a smaller silvery object moved away, and silvery filaments fell onto trees and telephone wires. Eberhart notes a possible hoax.
Background
At 4:30 p.m., a Mr. Carcénac in Graulhet, Tarn, France, saw a white object at high altitude heading northwest, which he first took for an airplane. Through opera glasses he made out a disc shape swaying as it moved at high speed. After a few seconds it exploded, and a smaller silvery object moved away from the explosion to the south and disappeared. Fragments from the airburst drifted gently to the ground; others who rushed to the spot saw debris, some of it like silvery filaments, caught on trees and telephone wires, which wilted away when handled. Eberhart flags the case as a possible hoax. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
