Background

At night Lorenzo Flores and Jesús Gómez were hunting rabbits along the Transandean Highway in Venezuela, near a town given as Carera that cannot be found (alternatively, between the equally unfindable places Chico and Cerro de las Tres Torros). They came upon a huge red object like two washbowls put together, hovering above the road with flames spurting out. Four small hairy figures, 3 feet tall, scrambled out, grabbed Gómez and tried to drag him toward the craft. Flores struck one with his gun butt, which had no effect, felt like striking rock and cracked the wooden butt; Gómez fainted from fright. A passing motorist took the scratched and bruised men to a police station, where it was obvious that their shirts had been shredded into ribbons. Eberhart cites the APRO Bulletin (January 1955), Keyhoe, Coral Lorenzen, Gordon Creighton in Flying Saucer Review (1968), Loren E. Gross and Clark's encyclopedia. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
