Background

Around 12:00 noon Mrs. Gwynne D. Mack, two other adults and an 11-year-old boy were driving up a mountain road above Arroyo Seco canyon on their way to Mount Wilson Observatory in Los Angeles County when they saw a massive group of white, flat, elliptical objects circling in the sky. The objects, appearing to be about 2 feet long, moved steadily and flipped over frequently, flashing a blinding silver light. As the group ascended the winding road they repeatedly saw the objects, whose flight resembled that of birds, although shape and motion made clear they were not birds; the objects gathered in a tight mass, some appearing darker at the ends. When the group climbed a hill for a better view, the objects suddenly vanished. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
