Background

At 7:30 p.m. François-Gilbert Muyldermans was cycling on a deserted road near Saint-Marc, near Namur, Belgium, when he saw a bright disc moving at high speed at an altitude of around 4,900 feet. He took a photo; the object descended, then rose again emitting a cloud of white smoke, and he took two more. Anomalies in the blurred grain, inconsistencies in orientation and the way the story entered UFO literature suggest a deliberate hoax, perhaps with a journalist's help, according to Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos and Wim van Utrecht's FOTOCAT study of Belgian UFO photographs (2017). The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
