At 2:00 p.m. on August 29, 1955, a group of children playing in the garden of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas in Riverside, California, observed a hovering object that disappeared and reappeared as a spinning disk with curved lines radiating from it. Other silvery, semi-transparent objects soon appeared and were seen by all the children; they emitted musical sounds as they vanished and reappeared. One of the objects landed, and a creature the size of a 4-year-old child, transparent and wearing a belt with a bright disk, appeared nearby; another creature emerged and spoke to one of the boys. All the children experienced visions of the object and the creatures, as well as 'arms' that seemed to beckon to them. The Riverside Daily Press reported the next day under the headline 'Squadron of Flying Saucers Causes Neighborhood Riot'; Isabel Davis and Ted Bloecher treat the case in Close Encounter at Kelly and Others of 1955.
