Washington, D.C.: Clara John starts the Flying Saucer Discussion Group at the YWCA
In 1956 the Flying Saucer Discussion Group, started by Clara John, began meeting roughly monthly at the YWCA in Washington, D.C.
Background
In 1956 the Flying Saucer Discussion Group began meeting on a more-or-less monthly basis at the YWCA in Washington, D.C. It was begun by Mrs. Walton C. 'Clara' John, publisher of the mimeographed zine The Little Listening Post, which often covered UFOs. The UFO Investigator's 1971 account of how NICAP began describes the group as part of that story. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
