Background

At 11:15 p.m., Mrs. Robert Beaudoin, the wife of an Air Force officer, and her 17-year-old daughter Carol Litten saw a large, soundless, pulsing light making fast, erratic motions northeast of Camarillo, California, and alerted 1st Lt. Leonard E. Ott at nearby Oxnard AFB. At 12:30 a.m. they saw a green object with two smaller red lights below the horizon of the hills, apparently hovering over the North American Rocketdyne plant in the Simi Hills; a Lt. Martin told Ott that radar showed a stationary object in the same area. Deputy Sheriffs Segura and Rausch confirmed the report, by then with five red objects below the green one, and when interceptors from Oxnard arrived the red objects joined the green one and sped away; two Navy aircraft were also sent. In the later Air Force investigation by the 4602nd the red objects became stars and the moon, the witness was judged hysterical, and neither the daughter nor the radar returns were taken into account. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
