Background

At 9:43 p.m., Kenneth J. Delano, who was taking part in aurora and meteor watches for the International Geophysical Year, was observing the sky at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland, when he saw a brilliant white light in the northwest. He watched it approach until it was nearly overhead. A faint, silvery-gray elliptical disc then became visible for a few seconds above the light. The object was silent apart from a faint whirring sound, and he watched it for a total of four minutes until it passed behind buildings. Delano later published his account in the International UFO Reporter. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
