Background

At 11:00 p.m. two young men saw a red light north of US Highway 62, 38 miles west of Hobbs, New Mexico, and watched it for nine to ten minutes, taking it for an oil flare, until it suddenly rose straight up. After pacing their car for a few minutes, the light turned toward the car, passed over it and hovered over the Permian Basin Pipeline plant. As it passed overhead, the engine sputtered and died and the lights went out. The men coasted down the road until the motor restarted and drove away. The next morning the battery was dead and the dashboard clock had stopped. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
