Background

At 9:15 a.m., Eastern Air Lines pilot Capt. Truman Gile Jr. was preparing to take off from Lafayette Airport, Louisiana, when he saw a big silvery object about 20,000 feet up. He watched it for 3 minutes (or seconds, depending on the report) without seeing it move. He alerted copilot James E. Hall, the stewardess and the ground agents, and they all watched it for another 5 minutes (or seconds) before it faded away. The case was reported in several newspapers the next day and taken up by NICAP's UFO Investigator. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
