Ringwood, Illinois: Fireball paces couple's car, lands behind school, TV sets fail
At 6:30 p.m. on November 5, 1957, Larry and Marilynn Beaman, driving near Antioch, Illinois, were paced by a ball of fire that followed them to Ringwood and landed in trees behind a school.
Background
Larry and Marilynn Beaman noticed a ball of fire, fluctuating from white to yellow, pacing their car on the right side at about 1,000 feet. It went out for a time and then switched back on, and at its largest seemed 30 feet in diameter. It followed them all the way to Ringwood and landed in trees behind a school building two blocks from their home; it glittered like a welder's arc and made a sound like swishing water. Beaman rounded up other witnesses and returned to the site, but the object took off, turned purple and moved away to the southwest. During the same period TV sets in town dimmed and finally lost picture and sound. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
