Newport Beach, California: Patrolman and fishermen see two flat delta objects off the pier
At 9:30 p.m. on April 9, 1958, patrolman Roger Gordon, three fishermen and other witnesses saw two flat, delta-winged objects with flashing red lights fly slowly and silently off the pier at Newport Beach, California.
Background
At 9:30 p.m. patrolman Roger Gordon spotted two objects off the pier in Newport Beach, California, after three fishermen pointed them out; about six other people also saw them hovering. The objects flew slowly northeast at about 500 feet; they appeared flat and delta-winged, with no tail or visible structure, and about six red lights flashed in series on their trailing edges. One object turned sharply right and headed over Newport, while the other continued north along the coast and turned inland near the Santa Ana River. Gordon reported the sighting to El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, whose flight operations had no record of such activity. Teenage boys on the pier and people in a nearby apartment described the objects as silent and moving in unusual ways. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
