Background

At 3:00 a.m. Mrs. William H. Fitzgerald of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, saw through her east-facing bedroom window a metallic domed disc, 12–22 feet in diameter and 6 feet thick. It swept in over the front lawn heading north, descending in a falling-leaf oscillating motion to about 6 feet altitude, crossed over her driveway and stopped for several seconds about 40 feet away. It then reversed course heading south and hovered 5 feet above the lawn about 25 feet away, making a jetlike sound. The object wobbled, emitted gray smoke, made two tight clockwise turns, then rose and took off straight up over the house towards the east. Her 10-year-old son also observed the event from another room; the case was documented in the Fitzgerald Report of the UFO Research Committee of Akron, Ohio, and discussed by Coral Lorenzen and by Menzel and Boyd. The account follows the entry in George M. Eberhart's chronology UFOs and Intelligence (CUFOS) and the sources cited there; it is not an independent determination by From Beyond Space.
